I didn't start building software to chase a trend. I started because the people around me had problems worth solving.

That instinct didn't start with code. For years, my job has been walking into operations that were falling behind or bleeding money, finding exactly where the breakdown was, and fixing it — sometimes that meant a new process, sometimes it meant building something that didn't exist yet. Software just turned out to be the fastest way to build the fix myself instead of waiting on someone else to.

My grandfather is losing his hearing, and following a conversation in a room full of people had worn him down. So I built him something simple — a way to turn the phones around him into microphones that print what everyone says, in large text, on a screen he can read as it happens. He got the room back.

That's the whole idea behind MAC Software Solutions. I find the frustrating, everyday problems — the missed call that costs a plumber a job, the paperwork that eats a Saturday — and build software that quietly takes them off your plate. Practical tools, built for real people, priced so a small business can actually use them.

None of it is a one-man operation. My wife Maggie is the other half of this — co-founder, registered agent, and the person who keeps the commitments we make to customers from slipping. I find the problem and build the fix; she makes sure the business behind it actually holds up.

Availon is the first problem I built for — missed calls — packaged as a product anyone can sign up for today. Not every problem fits a product, though, so the custom builds exist for everything else: the one specific thing eating your week that nothing off-the-shelf quite solves.
